Brief History of ECWA

Evangelical Church Winning All is the result of a long history of ministry. In the late 1800’s, several missionaries traveled to Africa from Canada and the United States under the auspices of the Sudan Interior Mission (SIM). Over time, missionaries from this organization planted many churches in the nation of Nigeria. In the middle of the 20 Century, these churches became independent of SIM and formed their own denomination, the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA). ECWA is currently the largest Protestant denomination in Nigeria with over 6,000 churches having an adult membership of 2.5 million and nearly 5 million in total attendance. In addition, ECWA also sends out 1,400 missionaries to Nigeria and other countries through the Evangelical Mission Society (EMS), the largest mission organization of any African church.
